Grant Thornotn Advises on Building Schools for the Future
Programme
The Government and Infrastructure Advisory
(GIA) team at Grant Thornton UK LLP provided financial advisory
services to Essex County Council for its Building Schools for the
Future (BSF) programme, which reached financial close for Wave 4
sample schools on Friday 30 April, ahead of schedule, in just over
12 weeks.
The Essex Building Schools for the Future
programme, one of the largest in the country, will be carried out
in a number of phases and will see Skanska RM (announced as the
preferred bidder in February) develop eight schools in the first
phase (Wave 4), making world-class educational facilities and
information technology available in Essex to help learners reach
their full potential.
Not only will the school buildings themselves
be transformed, but BSF will also bring considerable investment in
Information and Communication Technology (ICT), creating access to
21st century inclusive and personalised learning opportunities,
anytime, anywhere.
David Smith, GIA BSF and education director at
Grant Thornton says: "The Building Schools for the Future programme
will provide a sustainable and flexible environment for teaching
and learning and the economic importance of this long term
investment cannot be understated. We are delighted to have
played a key role in reaching financial close ahead of schedule and
look forward to the successful roll out of the BSF programme in
Essex."
